Preamble
A girl I know on IG restacked an article she’d written on Substack. I followed the link and figured I might as well open an account there.
Surprise! I already had one. I created it a long time ago. I named it, and then promply forgot about it.
What surprised me was that I had used the same name for the Substack account as for my current website. Y’see I’d wanted to build a website for a while. I took some web development courses and tried my hand at a coding language or two. It went no further than grasping the basics of HTML and CSS and being able to apply a particular code to a problem on a test. Big whoop.
I then came across Content Management Systems (CMS). It seemed like a way more user-friendly alternative to mastering how to code and building a site from scratch. I opened a WordPress account and began putting together my website. The learning curve was steep and painful, mainly because I expected my knowledge of HTML and CSS to come in handy. It didn’t. CMS does not use static pages.
After alot of googling and video tutorials, I had a perfectly functional, if austere, site finished.
Somewhere between taking the web dev course and being stymied repeadedly by WordPress’s interface and functionality, I must’ve opened the Substack account.
So now here I am: A guy with a website AND a Substack account with the same name. And the one question I keep asking myself is do I really need both?
